In der ursprünglichen Drehbuchfassung von Star Trek II war vorgesehen, dass Saavik halb vulkanisch ferner halb romulanisch das sollte. Die alleinige gedrehte Szene, in der darauf Bezug angewendet wurde, wurde hingegen nicht für den fertigen Film genutzt. In der nahen Romanfassung dieses Films blieb die romulanische Abstammung kaufen. In Star Trek VI sollte Saavik eigentlich wieder verwendet werden und sich wie Verräterin herausstellen.
